Head of the mission in Sierra Leone: this is a great relief for us, living at the epicenter of Ebola crisis

Freetown, August 4, 2015

The VSV-EBOV vaccine against the Ebola virus has shown 100% effectiveness in the clinical trials in Guinea, but this vaccine should go through more extensive testing to show that it works and is safe, said Marie-Paule Kieny, Assistant Director-General   of the World Health Organization, at a briefing in Geneva, reports RIA-Novosti.

“We believe that the world will soon have an effective Ebola vaccine… The testing is still going on, but the results of the preliminary trials show that none of the 2,014 vaccinated people contracted this virus within ten days after the vaccination,” said Marie-Paule Kieny.

Archimandrite Themistocles (Adamopoulos), head of the Orthodox mission in Sierra Leone, one of the west African countries which have been at the epicenter of the deadly virus, has commented on this news on his “Facebook” page.

“It has been announced today that the vaccine against the Ebola fever was tested by the World Health Organization in Africa (Guinea) and it showed 100% effectiveness against the deadly disease. If it is true, then this is a great relief for us, living at the epicenter of Ebola. Glory be to God!”
