The large-scale celebrations dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of repose of the Holy Prince Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles, will be held in the Russian city of Belgorod on August 1, reports the Synodal Information Department. As is generally known, wishing to fortify the state boundaries, St. Vladimir founded a number of walled cities, and Belgorod became the most important of them.
The day before the festival the precious relics of Prince Vladimir will arrive to Belgorod (whose name means “a white city”).
The relics will be available for veneration by the faithful inside the Church of Sts. Faith, Hope, Love (Charity) and their Mother Sophia in Belgorod from 19.00 of July 31 (Friday) till 19.00 of August 1 (Saturday).
At 8.00 on August 1 Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol will serve a Divine Liturgy at the Church of Sts. Faith, Hope, Love (Charity) and their Mother Sophia with deans of the Belgorod Diocese concelebrating.
At 10.30 on that day a procession of the cross to the monument to the Holy Prince Vladimir will begin.
At 11.00 Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol will perform a prayer service at the monument of the Holy Prince Vladimir of Kiev and will award those who much contributed to the perpetuation of his memory the jubilee Patriarchal medals, “For the 1000th anniversary of repose of Prince Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles”.
