“While we are sitting about and doing nothing, our enemies are little by little taking out stones from the foundation of our life and our Church, so that everything should then collapse itself,” said Metropolitan Nikolaos of Pfthiotis in his speech at the Divine Liturgy on September 16 in Athens.
A solemn celebration of the feast-day of Sts. Sophia and her Three Daughters, Faith, Hope, and Charity (Love), commemorated by the Church of Greece on September 16 (according to the new calendar), took place at the Church in Athens dedicated in honor of these martyrs. The Divine Liturgy was presided over by Metropolitan Nikolaos of Pfthiotis. The church was filled to capacity with worshippers, reports Romfea.
“Today the society has turned its back on the Christian faith. We are about to build atheistic states and are not expressing our indignation when we hear proposals from abroad or even in our native country to remove Christian symbols from everywhere and to forget Christian values and ideals,” said His Eminence in his speech.
“While we are sitting about and doing nothing, our enemies are little by little taking out stones from the foundation of our life and our Church, so that everything should then collapse by itself.
The Church will undoubtedly survive, according to the Lord’s words, but each of us will endure many hardships, losing peace and quiet. We are aware of the fact that something is being prepared for the future, some bills are being passed. The Church Hierarchy is concerned about tomorrow, as the European states are thirsting for the de-Christianization of Greece behind the mask of economic development,” concluded the Metropolitan.
