The Senate of North Dakota passed a bill
that bans abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detected.
If it is signed by the governor the law will become the
most restrictive abortion law in the nation—going
further than the recent Arkansas legislators bill
banning abortions involving fetuses 12 weeks or old.
The North Dakota bill would restrict abortions to six
weeks or older, around the time a fetal heartbeat can
be detected.
“‘We all know the significance of a heartbeat.
It is the universally accepted biological proof of
life,’ said Sen. Spencer Berry, a sponsor of the
bill, in a brief discussion before the vote. No one spoke
in opposition and it passed 26 to 17.” Reports
Paloma Esquivel from the
LA Times.
