During the meeting, which included Protopriest Vladimir Siloviev, Editor-in-Chief of the Publishing Arm of the Moscow Patriarchate, and Galina Ananyina, President of the St Germogen Memorial Foundation, they discussed organizing events devoted to marking the 400th anniversary of the martyr’s death of the saint and the 100th anniversary of the glorification of Patriarch Germogen in 2012-2013. A book on the churches dedicated to the holy hierarch is planned, which will include examples from various countries of the world, including Argentina. It will include information on the Church of St Germogen in Quilmes (Buenos Aires), built in 1948. Vladyka John is the present Rector of this church. A commemorative calendar is also planned, titled “The Great Sufferer for His Motherland” (on the 400th anniversary of St Germogen’s martyrdom), which will be made available to the Quilmes church. Vladyka John was given an icon of St Germogen as a gift, painted by contemporary Muscovite artists and blessed over his relics in Uspensky Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on July 16, 2011.
The Publishing Arm and Foundation also plan to publish an akathist to St Germogen, as well as a book on the “Reigning” Icon of the Mother of God which will include the akathist for this icon.
During the visit, Vladyka John learned about the work of the commercial enterprise Pravoslavnaya kniga [‘The Orthodox Book”] on Pogodinaskaya street in Moscow.
